Tower Junction chase charges admitted
The man who led police on a chase that ended in Tower Junction in mid-February pleaded guilty to eight charges in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
Jamyn David Reiri, 23, admitted four charges laid after the chase – driving while forbidden, failing to stop for police, stealing petrol from the Mobil service station in Bealey Avenue, and driving dangerously on February 17.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of a knife on the same day.
Reiri pleaded guilty to charges of breaching his release conditions, failing to report for community work, and stealing a car on February 14.
While on bail for those charges he admitted he drove while forbidden again, but pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving a BMW car worth $4000 on March 4.
Judge Gary McAskill remanded Reiri in custody to a sentencing date of May 1, and ordered a pre-sentence report and a report to assess his suitability for home detention.
He asked for a reparation report for the petrol, and referred him for a restorative justice meeting.
For the not guilty pleas, Reiri was remanded to May 19 for a case review hearing.
