Woman charged with police station assault

Police-badge-2013-09-001A 27-year-old woman has been granted a registrar’s remand on a charge of assaulting a policewoman who was injured in an incident in the Central Police Station reception area on Monday.

Chelsea Fairless, of North New Brighton, was remanded without needing to appear before a judge in the Christchurch District Court today. She was remanded on bail to get legal advice before her next appearance on April 10.

Fairless has entered no pleas to charges of disorderly behaviour in the reception area, trespass at the police station, and assaulting the constable in the execution of her duty. Police said after the incident that the officer needed hospital treatment for a shoulder injury.
