Prison assault denied

A not guilty plea has been entered by a man charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an alleged assault on a sentenced prisoner in the Christchurch Men’s Prison.
Terence Junior Whaanga, 25, appeared in the Christchurch District Court by video link from the prison today.
The man was injured on March 31 and taken to hospital, but released back to the prison that night.
Whaanga elected trial by jury, and was remanded in custody by Judge Noel Walsh to a case review hearing on June 15.
