Arson of unoccupied houses admitted
A Linwood man has admitted setting fire to two unoccupied houses and burglary of a third building.
Forty-three-year-old Errol Carl Tait pleaded guilty to the two arsons and the burglary before Judge Stephen O’Driscoll in the Christchurch District Court today.
Judge O’Driscoll remanded him on bail to April 23 to consider his pleas on two other arson charges, and a sentencing date will then be set for the offences he has admitted.
Tait admitted setting fire to a house in Acland Avenue, Avonside, owned by the CERA, on December 5, and then a house in Frankleigh Street, Spreydon, owned by a company, on January 29. The burglary charges relates to a building in Shaw Avenue, New Brighton, on February 22.
Defence counsel Andrew Bailey said aspects of the police account were not accepted by Tait, and asked that the summary of facts relating to the offences not be read in court.
