Court House-general2The planned 9.30am start of a Christchurch District Court jury trial was delayed for an hour when the three accused were stuck in a lift at the Court House.

The three were stuck for more than 40min in a lift inside the building’s secure “core”, along with a man and two women prison officers, when they were being brought up to the jury court level.

They then had a short break before being brought into court where five lawyers had been waiting and after legal discussion, the trial got started at 10.30am.

Judge Brian Callaghan told the jury that “the Gods have been against us today, with the weather, the traffic issues, and a lift malfunction”.
