A prison inmate has admitted a charge of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on another man after an incident in the Christchurch Men’s Prison on March 31.

Raymie Sulupo, 23, gave his guilty plea by video-link from the prison in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.

A second man, Raipo Piripi Tipene, 18, has already pleaded guilty for the same attack at an earlier date, and the third man charged – Terence Junior Whaanga, 25, has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.

Judge Tony Couch remanded Sulupo in custody to sentencing on July 8, and Tipene will be sentenced at the same session.

The sentenced prisoner who was attacked was taken to hospital, but released back to the prison that night.
