Custody remand on school burglary charges
A Rangiora man has been remanded in custody on charges of burgling both the Darfield High and Primary Schools.
Police allege the break-ins by Dean Richard Mehrtens, 42, both happened on June 5.
They opposed bail when Mehrtens appeared before Judge Stephen O’Driscoll in the Christchurch District Court today.
Judge O’Driscoll heard an application for Mehrtens’ release on bail but decided to remand him in custody to June 25. No pleas were entered.
