Remand on police assault charges

Police-badge-2013-09-001A 29-year-old builder has been charged with injuring two policemen who were arresting him at The Palms Shopping Centre after a domestic violence incident.

Teatawai Floyd Meechang, from North New Brighton, faced charges of resisting arrest, intentionally injuring the two policemen, stealing a woman’s clothing, intentionally damaging a television, and driving while disqualified.

Meechang was given a registrar’s remand so did not appear in the Christchurch District Court. He was remanded to appear again on July 22.

The two officers received medical treatment after the incident.
