Court House-Sept-2013-07A teenage driver has been remanded to get legal advice on charges relating to an incident in which two petrol pumps were wrecked at the Kirwee Challenge service station.

The charges allege Kaylib Dallas Kauri Moana, 18, a labourer from Hornby, drove carelessly on the West Coast Road, State Highway 73, at Kirwee, on June 6.

It is also alleged that he was driving on the highway with 930mcg of alcohol to a litre of breath. The legal limit for adult drivers to be prosecuted in court is 400mcg of alcohol.

Moana did not appear in court, but was granted a registrar’s remand to appear again in the Christchurch District Court on July 17, to take legal advice in the meantime.

The police and service station owner allege that the two pumps – each worth about $25,000 – were damaged in an incident that took place about 9pm on a Saturday night. The damage caused the service station to be unable to sell fuel.
