Court House-general2A 49-year-old man has admitted repeated sexual violations of a girl from the age of 10 and is in custody awaiting sentence on 16 charges.

He was granted interim name suppression when he entered the guilty pleas at a case review hearing in the Christchurch District Court today.

The man, a technician, had originally indicated not guilty pleas to the charges, and Judge Jane Farish told him today: “You have saved a lot of harm to the complainant with your early guilty pleas.”

At the request of Crown prosecutor Claire Boshier, she ordered a victim impact report prepared by a child psychologist to indicate the harm the offending had had on the girl ahead of the man’s sentencing which has been set for August 5.

She also ordered a pre-sentence report and read the man a first-strike warning which imposes heavier sentences on repeat violent and sexual offenders.

The man pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, three of doing an indecent act on a child, four of doing an indecent act on a young person, assault on a child, and three charges of assault with a weapon – a belt and a stick.

The Crown says the offending occurred on a Pacific Island, Auckland, and Christchurch. The offending mainly involved digital penetration.
