Court House-entranceThe mother of five-year-old Leon Michael Le Fleming Jayet-Cole who died after being admitted to hospital with serious head injuries last month has been charged with failing to get medical treatment for him.

Emma Le Fleming Roberts, 37, of Redwood, was remanded on bail without plea by a registrar to appear again on August 4 in the Christchurch District Court. No suppression was granted by the registrar.

The autistic boy’s stepfather, James Stedman Roberts, 34, a labourer, has been charged with his murder and is next due to make a pre-trial appearance in the High Court on September 11.

At the time of Leon’s death, police said he had been admitted to Christchurch Hospital on May 27 with serious head injuries, and died soon after.

Emma Roberts has now been charged that being a person who had care of Leon, she failed on May 27 to seek medical treatment for him, which the charge describes as “a major departure from the standard of care to be expected of a reasonable person”.
