Jail term for Aranui dairy robbery
A 22-year-old man, who has not named his co-offender, has been sentenced to prison for 33 months for his part in the armed robbery of an Aranui dairy.
Jermaine Ruru, an Aranui steel fixer, was with a co-offender who was armed with a hammer when they entered the dairy in Breezes Road and demanded cash on January 31.
Judge Raoul Neave said the men were disguised and wearing gloves when they entered the store, and demanded the victim fill their back pack with cash. Ruru took about $240 worth of tobacco, and $1000 cash.
The victim was uninjured but shaken, Judge Neave said, and when Ruru was found he co-operated with the police.
Ruru told the police the money was for food and drink, but did not tell them who the co-offender was.
Judge Neave said Ruru had already been on electronically monitored bail for four months, and sentenced him to two years nine months prison.
