A short catalogue of bungled robberies
The latest report of an inept liquor store robbery in Aranui has brought to mind some other famously bungled local cases.
There was the case of an armed robber who did not realise that a bank’s security cameras were operating all the time, and not just when a robbery was in progress.
He went into the bank, paused, and then pulled his balaclava on, giving the camera plenty of time to capture an image of his face.
Another robber was shown on security cam turning up outside a bank’s glass doors with full kit – mask, firearm, bag for the prospective loot.
Finding the doors still locked, he was then seen to check the opening hours listed on the door and finding that he had arrived three minutes too early. With a pause for a curse, he left, and was later only charged with attempted robbery.
The third was a dairy robber who went into the shop ahead of the robbery to scope out the joint and while he was in there he made a purchase – using his very easily traceable bank card.
