Court House-Sept-2013-06A young man facing charges over alleged ram-raids on two service stations and one dairy in New Brighton has appeared in the Christchurch District Court.

Hamish Alex McDonald, 21 of Phillipstown, has been charged with entering Z Energy in Hawke Street, entering Challenge Service Station in Bridge Street, and entering Bower Avenue Dairy – all by ram-raiding – as well as driving on Cranford Street dangerously, failing to stop for police, and possession of scissors capable of being used for taking a vehicle.

Police say two cars were seen by police in the process of ram raiding the Bower Avenue Dairy about 3.40am.

Two alleged offenders were arrested at the scene: McDonald and Danielle Lesly Marie Pearce, a 17-year-old Bryndwr teen who was charged with unlawfully getting into a vehicle, and was given a registrar’s remand to August 19.

Two other offenders left the scene in another car, colliding with an unoccupied police car. The police chase was abandoned because of the way the car was being driven, and the police ask anyone with any information on a Nissan Terrano registration number US9037 to get in touch with them on 363-7400.

McDonald was remanded in custody, without plea, to apply for legal aid, and to appear by video-link from prison on August 3.
