Court House-07A 21-year-old admitted charges of ram-raiding three New Brighton commercial premises, and taking a car from Morrison Avenue, in the Christchurch District Court.

Hamish Alex McDonald pleaded guilty to charges of burglary of Z Energy in Hawke Street Brighton, the Challenge Service Station in Bridge Street South Brighton, and the Bower Avenue Dairy, all of which were ram-raided.

He also pleaded guilty to taking a car worth $4000, and possession of a pair of scissors which were used for starting the car.

The police summary of facts said McDonald was with an associate in the early hours of  July 29, when they drove two stolen vehicles into all three premises. They took several items and the cash tills from all of them, causing moderate damage.

McDonald pleaded not guilty to charges of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Judge Robert Murfitt remanded McDonald in custody for sentencing on September 23, and said McDonald may attend a restorative justice meeting. He asked for a reparation report and pre-sentence report to be prepared for the sentencing.

The driving charges with not guilty pleas were remanded to a case review hearing on September 7.
