Court House-Sept-2013-07Nine men charged with kidnapping and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to a Dallington man at the weekend have been remanded in custody in a series of Christchurch District Court appearances.

No bail applications were made for the men, who were remanded in custody to August 31 for appearances by video-link from Christchurch Prison.

Judge Barbara Morris declined a Press application to photograph the defendants as they appeared in the dock one by one.

She said it was still early days in the investigation of the case by the police and the men were still to have defence counsel assigned and consider making bail applications.

She said the position “may well be different” once they had their own counsel assigned.

The men are charged with kidnapping Dawson Reihana, a 34-year-old Dallington man, on Saturday and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm. No pleas were entered.

The men were arrested after members of the Armed Offender Squad searched two properties in Ajax Street, Shirley, and Bowenvale Avenue, Cashmere, on Sunday.

The men were:

Matthew James Mulvey, 34,of Phillipstown.

Albert Hollis Mauheni, 33, of Papanui.

August Keefe, 56, of Shirley.

Dylan Raymond Shannon Corbin, 26, of Spreydon.

Earl Fraser Waitokia, 38, of Wanganui.

Matthew James Rowe, a 40-year-old bricklayer, of Addington.

Jason Phillip Rewiti, 32, of Spreydon.

Leon Delshannon Turner, 40, of Hoon Hay.

Anthony Kevin Peters, 41, of Cashmere.

They will be required to enter pleas on that day.

Mulvey struggled briefly with court escort staff when his case was stood down and he was taken back to the cells.

Dawson Reihana appeared in an arrest court before Justices of the Peace on Saturday morning and was remanded on bail, without plea, to August 25, on a charge of stealing a tablet computer worth $1300 from Sanitarium, on September 25 last year.
