New Brighton Mall assault admitted
A 19-year-old has admitted an assault on an elderly man in the New Brighton Mall on July 15, in the Christchurch District Court today.
Resham Toa Blake-Faatafa pleaded guilty to a charge causing grievous bodily harm to the 72-year-old victim in the early hours of the morning.
The man was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Defence counsel Bridget Ayrey said there had to be more investigation into the second charge of causing grievous bodily harm, which was laid over the same incident.
She said Blake-Faatafa did not accept the police’s summary of facts over the assault.
Judge Brian Callaghan remanded Blake-Faatafa in custody to a case review hearing on October 6 to give counsel time to sort out the second charge, and the disputed summary.
He told Blake-Faatafa that the three strike warning for violent offenders would be read to him on that day.
