Court House-Sept-2013-06A Kaiapoi man has pleaded not guilty to three unusual charges relating to flying a model aircraft.

The charges arise from alleged incidents at Pines Beach, near Kaiapoi, north of Christchurch on January 5 and 20.

Simon Roy Reeve, 38, is charged with operating a remotely controlled Phantom II model aircraft in a manner that caused unnecessary danger to people on January 5.

He is charged with operating it on January 5 and 20 in controlled airspace without the prior authorisation of the Air Traffic Control unit responsible for that airspace.

Reeve’s case was listed for the departmental prosecution list but he did not need to appear in court before a judge after getting a registrar’s remand. He was remanded to October 8 for a case review hearing after indicating not guilty pleas on all three charges.

The prosecution has been brought by the Civil Aviation Authority.
