Youth denies liquor store robbery
A 17-year-old is denying his alleged role in the violent robbery of the Woolston liquor store on Ferry Road and has elected trial by jury.
Tamatea Lorenzo Briggs is one of three teenagers arrested for the August 29 robbery. He has just turned 17 and is being dealt with in the Christchurch District Court, while two alleged co-offenders aged 15 and 16 are due to make remand appearances in the Youth Court tomorrow.
Defence counsel Kiran Paima told Judge Jane Farish that Briggs would enter not guilty pleas to charges of robbing the liquor store shop assistant and intentionally injuring a man.
The alleged victim of the injuring charge is the man whose car was allegedly unlawfully taken and used for the robbery.
Briggs today admitted charges of unlawfully taking the $3000 car and driving while forbidden on the day of the robbery.
Judge Farish further remanded Briggs in custody to November 2 for a case review hearing.
Security camera footage shows bottles of liquor being smashed over the head of the shop assistant during the robbery.
