Patrick John MCGREEVY-45 years old-Sept 2015-wtaA 45-year-old man alleged to have absconded from a 10-year extended supervision order at the weekend will deny the charge and has elected trial by jury.

The Community Probation Service opposed bail for Patrick John McGreevy (pictured) when he appeared before Judge John Strettell in the Christchurch District Court today.

McGreevy was remanded in custody to Wednesday, when a date will be set for a hearing to decide whether he will be released on bail.

Defence counsel Andrew Bailey told the court McGreevy would elect trial on the charge of breaching the extended supervision order which is due to expire in 2019, and that charge has been remanded to a case review hearing on November 30.

Police alleged that McGreevy absconded about 1am on Saturday after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet. He was found and arrested in Christchurch at 5.35pm the same day.
