Court House-general2A man arrested for allegedly taking a $34,000 motorcycle that was seen being pushed down a Christchurch street yesterday has now been charged over a triple stabbing incident six weeks ago.

Nicolas Andrew Hanson, 29, entered no pleas to six charges when he made a first appearance before Judge Arthur Tompkins in the Christchurch District Court today.

Duty lawyer Tony Garrett said no bail application was being made and asked for Hanson to be remanded in custody to Tuesday for a legal aid application and for defence counsel to be appointed.

Hanson, whose address is given as a property in Teddington, is charged with wounding two men and a woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in an incident that took place at a house on Johns Road, on the outskirts of Christchurch, on August 30.

In each case, police allege the victims were stabbed.

Two other people, Stephanie Jane McGrath, 25, and Alvin Ritesh Kumar, a 32-year-old factory hand from Woolston, have also been charged over that incident and are remanded for a case review on November 9 after pleading not guilty. Kumar is on bail, while McGrath remains in custody.

Hanson was arrested yesterday after concerned residents contacted police about a motorcycle being pushed along a residential street in Christchurch.

A police check led to the charge against Hanson of unlawfully taking the motorcycle, as well as charges of being in possession of a .22 rifle and 34 rounds of ammunition “without some lawful, proper, and sufficient purpose”.

After his arrest, police executed a search warrant at an address in Teddington where they allege cannabis, two shotguns, and a taser were seized. “Investigations are continuing and further charges may be laid,” said Acting Detective Sergeant Mark Kolmer.
