Pair charged with Brighton beach robbery

Two 17-year-olds charged with the robbery of a visitor to Christchurch on Brighton beach on Tuesday night were granted registrar’s remands at the Christchurch District Court today.
The pair, Bradley Gavin Moore, a Woolston bricklayer, and Reuben Banks, of Parklands, entered no pleas and were remanded to get legal advice.
They are on bail and next due to appear in court on November 26.
A 19-year-old whose name is mentioned in the joint charges of aggravated robbery has not yet been brought to court.
The police allege the trio robbed the Turkish man who was visiting Christchurch during a working holiday, taking $165 cash and a cellphone.
“Police understand that the victim was befriended by three men who took him to the beach where he was assaulted and had his wallet and cell phone stolen,” police said.
The victim suffered multiple cuts, grazes and bruises to his knees, hands, face and head. He has since left Christchurch to take up work in another South Island centre.
