Woman denies sex with 14-year-old boy
A 44-year-old woman is denying charges of developing an inappropriate sexual relationship with 14-year-old boy, in a trial in the Christchurch District Court.
The woman, who has name suppression, has been charged with five counts of sexual connection with a young person – with three of them representative charges – over three months in 2014.
Crown prosecutor Pip Currie told Judge Brian Callaghan and the jury that the woman was a teacher aid, and the boy allegedly involved was a 14-year-old.
Mrs Currie said a relationship developed between them, and sometimes she drove him to a group he was involved with, but at other times she took him to her address.
She told the jury that even if the boy consented to the relationship it was a criminal offence to have sex with under 16-year-olds.
