Suppression lifts on woman convicted of sex with boy
A jury has found a 44-year-old woman guilty on four charges of having sex with a 14-year-old boy after a five-day trial in the Christchurch District Court.
Raelyn Jacquelyn Te Moni denied five charges of having sexual intercourse, and unlawful sexual connection with the boy, and one charge was dismissed during the trial, after he gave evidence.
The jury heard that Te Moni was a teacher aid who sometimes drove the boy to a group he was involved in, but at other times she took him to her address.
Judge Brian Callaghan granted Te Moni bail with a curfew until her sentencing on June 15, and asked for a pre-sentence report, and a victim impact report to be prepared.
He read her the first of the three strike warnings for repeat offenders, and said she was to have no unsupervised contact with children while on bail.
He also ordered a report to assess Te Moni’s suitability for a home detention sentence.
The woman had name suppression during the trial but Judge Callaghan lifted it after her conviction.
