Tully trial jury retires
The jury in the trial of Russell John Tully, on charges of murder and attempted murder arising from the 2014 shootings in the Ashburton WINZ office, retired to consider its verdicts at 4pm.
Its retirement followed a 100-minute summing up by Justice Cameron Mander on the 10th day of the trial in the High Court at Christchurch.
The jury had already heard closing addresses by Crown prosecutor Mark Zarifeh, and amicus curiae, James Rapley, presenting defence submissions, during the morning sessions.
The jury decided at 5pm that it wanted to go home for the night, and would resume its deliberations at 9.30am on Wednesday, when they have also asked to see the CCTV footage of the shootings again.
