Scam accused denies all charges

Court House from Victoria Sq-101A 27-year-old woman accused of being part of a group that was scamming elderly victims has denied seven charges at an appearance in the Christchurch District Court.

Leana Korau, also known as Wylie, of Wainoni, entered a total of eight not guilty pleas at a court appearance by video-link from Christchurch prison.

Defence counsel Rupert Glover said she elected trial by jury.

One charge alleges she dishonestly took a bank card, and six allege she dishonestly used bank cards belonging to four victims.

She also pleaded not guilty to charge of shoplifting meat and beauty products worth $400 from a shop at Eastgate mall in Linwood on December 12.

All charges have been remanded to a Crown case review on May 9.

Korau remains in custody, and an application for her release on electronically monitored bail was further adjourned today for hearing on March 17.

Korau repeated interrupted Judge Tony Couch when she realised the application was being adjourned and had to be warned to be quiet.
