Two charged over Rakaia drug raid
Discovery of about 1kg of synthetic cannabis at a Rakaia property raided by police on Tuesday has led to a woman’s appearance at the Christchurch District Court.
A registrar’s remand was granted for Rebecca Phillipa Williams, 27, of Rakaia, so that she did not need to appear in court before a judge on the four charges she faces.
Williams was remanded on bail to April 11 in the Ashburton District Court, on charges of possession of cannabis seed, possession of a psycho-active substance for supply, possession of the class C drug benzylpiperazine (formerly known as party pills), and possession of a pipe for smoking cannabis.
She entered no pleas.
A 27-year-old man was dealt with on drugs charges arising from the same police raid. He was visiting the property when the police executed the search warrant.
Karl Harvey Aspin, 27, of Southbridge, admitted charges of possessing the class A drug methamphetamine, and possession of a pipe for smoking it.
Judge Raoul Neave fined him a total of $600 and told him: “If you have been dabbling in this drug, I hope you have now learned your lesson and that has come to a screaming halt.”
