Court House-07A night-time curfew has been clamped on a 38-year-old man charged with recklessly shining a laser light at a passenger plane and the Christchurch International Airport control tower.

Tane Hemopo, of Hornby, a project manager for a fit-out company, was remanded on bail to April 26 to apply for legal aid and have a defence counsel assigned.

He will have to be at home every night from 6pm to 6am during the remand.

Hemopo has entered no plea to a charge of shining a laser pointer device that was likely to cause danger to 121 passengers and crew with reckless disregard for the safety of the captain and Virgin Airlines international flight heading for Christchurch Airport.

He is also charged with shining the laser at the Christchurch Airport control tower with reckless disregard for the safety of an air traffic controller, where it was likely to cause danger to arriving and departing aircraft.
