Russell John Tully sentencing delayed
Friday’s sentencing has been delayed for the convicted Ashburton WINZ shooter Russell John Tully.
It was meant to take place before the trial judge, Justice Cameron Mander, in the High Court at Christchurch that morning.
But the High Court issued a message today that the sentencing date had been “vacated” and no new date had yet been set for it to take place.
No reason was given for the delay.
Tully was convicted in early March, at the end of a two-week trial, on charges of murdering two WINZ workers, Peggy Turuhira Noble and Susan Leigh Cleveland, who were both killed by shotgun blasts on September 1, 2014.
He was also convicted of attempting to kill another WINZ staff member he fired at but missed, but found not guilty of attempting to murder a four staff member who was hit in the leg.
Tully, who disrupted his own trial and was not present in court for much of it, has been in custody since his arrest on the day of the killings.
