Court House-general 3A 32-year-old Oxford man who admitted receiving two trailers and tools worth thousands of dollars stolen from two construction companies was sentenced to community detention in the Christchurch District Court.

David John Hunter received the trailers, then on-sold them, but they have been recovered and returned to their owners.

Hunter was sentenced on two charges of receiving property, one of driving while disqualified, and one of speaking threateningly. He had pleaded guilty.

Judge Bridget Mackintosh said one of the trailers and the tools Hunter had were worth $30,000 and were owned by two Christchurch construction companies.

Judge Mackintosh said Hunter sent threatening text messages to his former partner, and was caught driving while disqualified.

His pre-sentence report said Hunter accepted responsibility for the offending, and was remorseful when he realised it had cost him his freedom, and upset his parents.

She sentenced him to five months’ community detention, with a curfew from 9pm to 6.30am every day. No reparation was sought as all the items had been recovered.
