Woman arrested on ‘lingering’ charge
A woman forbidden to have contact with children has been arrested for allegedly “lingering” around a boy at a bus stop.
Margaret Mabel Dodds, 60, entered no plea when she appeared before Judge Alastair Garland in the Christchurch District Court today.
Duty lawyer Trudi Aickin said no application for Dodds’ release on bail was being made today, but an application may be made at her next appearance.
Dodds is forbidden under a special condition imposed as part of a sentence of two years of intensive supervision, granted in January 2015, to have any contact with children under 16.
The Community Probation Service has now prosecuted her on a charge of breaching the sentencing by lingering around a boy under 16 in a bus shelter at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Probation alleges the breach occurred on Wednesday, near where Dodds lives as a resident at the Seager Clinic at the hospital.
Judge Garland remanded her in custody to appear again on June 9, by video-link from the prison.
