Helicopter charges laid against Bennett
Paul James Bennett now faces Civil Aviation charges relating to flying a helicopter, after an appearance at the Christchurch District Court today.
Bennett, 53, was deported from Australia last month and arrested at Christchurch on fraud and theft charges, and indecent assaults. Those 48 charges alleged frauds and thefts totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He was remanded in custody for an appearance by video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison today, when the 12 new Civil Aviation charges were laid.
They are all alleged to have taken place in Christchurch, Hamilton, Upper Hutt, and Paraparaumu in 2014.
The allege he flew a Eurocopter without a private pilot’s licence and without a current medical certificate.
Some charges allege offences took place between Upper Hutt and Christchurch, Paraparaumu and Hamilton, and Hamilton and Christchurch.
Bennett was remanded in custody without plea on all charges.
