Court House-doorwayA 34-year-old woman admitted drunkenly calling the police and telling them there was someone in her house with a firearm – and then refusing to let the officers inside.

On June 15 at 7am Shelley Anne Wilson made the call to the police, and when a group of police arrived she refused them entrance to the house, and yelled at them to go away.

She refused to leave the Linwood house while it was searched, was intoxicated, and aggressive to the police.

In the Christchurch District Court, Wilson admitted knowingly using a phone to falsely claim that a serious firearm offence was being committed, and obstructing a police officer. She also pleaded guilty to shoplifting face cream from a supermarket.

Judge David Saunders said Wilson was well known to the court because of her appalling record. She had 19 pages listing previous convictions, mainly littered with dishonesty offending.

Defence counsel Michelle Barrell said Wilson was ashamed and embarrassed, and was a chronic alcoholic.

Judge Saunders sentenced Wilson to 80 hours’ community work.
