A 17-year-old has admitted stealing a charity box from the counter of the Ibis Hotel on Hereford Street, and damaging a door at the Baby Factory on Riccarton Road.

The Christchurch District Court was told that on November 21, Daniel Tiwai Tuatau took the Cure Kids box with about $50 in donations. He told police he used the money to get home and buy food at McDonalds.

On November 26, he became involved in a confrontation with a man, before punching and kicking a glass door at the Baby Factory shop on Riccarton Road.

Police are seeking $50 reparation for the box and money.

Judge Paul Kellar remanded Tuatau on bail to appear again on February 24, and relaxed a 24-hour-a-day curfew that he had imposed at a court appearance on Friday. Tuatau is now curfewed at the address overnight.
