A 30-year-old man has admitted his role in a highly organised ram-raid in which $50,000 of merchandise was snatched from a Barrington sports store.

Matt Dylan Sinclair admitted the burglary charge, as well as two charges of receiving stolen property, at a video-link from Christchurch Men’s Prison where he has been held in custody on remand.

Judge Bridget Mackintosh remanded him in custody for sentencing in the Christchurch District Court on June 30. She ordered a pre-sentence report.

Two vehicles were used in the raid on the Anderson and Hill sports store on October 14, at 2.50am.

The first vehicle was driven through the glass frontage of the shop and parked inside the building.

Then a second vehicle reversed through the open shop front, and parked partially inside the store.

Video shows up to three offenders inside the store, gathering up clothing, shoes, and accessories, and carrying them to load in the vehicle. Each offender made several trips to the vehicle.

Police prosecutor Nicola Stratton told the court that $50,000 of property had been loaded into the car, and the burglars had caused another $15,000 damage in the ram raid, which took a slick three minutes from start to finish.

One other person, aged 27, has been arrested for the burglary and has pleaded not guilty.

Sinclair also admitted receiving a stolen Toyota Hilux worth $39,000, and being reckless about whether it had been stolen, and also receiving stolen power tools.

Sinclair told the police he had been loaned the vehicle by an associate.
