A 52-year-old man has admitted charges of intentionally injuring and helping to conceal evidence, just ahead of the beginning of his trial in the High Court at Christchurch.
George Perry Waata, of Opawa, pleaded guilty to the charges before Justice David Gendall and was remanded in custody for sentencing on June 29.
Justice Gendall ordered a pre-sentence report, and also referred the case for a restorative justice conference, after Waata indicated he was willing to undergo that process.
Waata has admitted intentionally injuring Marcus Luke Tucker, 36, and actively suppressing evidence.
In the meantime, Justice Gendall has suppressed much of the detail of the charges and the facts of the case.
