A 17-year-old has admitted charges of ram-raiding the Z Energy petrol station at Waikuku, stealing two Mazda cars last week, and attempting to burgle a Liquor Centre in June.
Police say Jordan Lee Duncan was in a group of five young offenders who drove a Mazda stolen in Christchurch through the doors of the Waikuku Service Station on June 22.
The fog cannon went off, and unable to see, they grabbed snacks on their way out. They left in another stolen Mazda.
Duncan also attempted to burgle the Burwood Road Liquor Centre in Christchurch on the same day.
The other alleged offenders will be dealt with in the Youth Court and have automatic suppression of their names.
In the Christchurch District Court defence counsel April Kelland said Duncan was under the care of Youth Pathways who wanted him to go to a detox centre for rehabilitation for a very bad synthetic drug habit.
Judge David Saunders said Duncan’s risk of re-offending was very high, and remanded him in custody to July 6 to set a sentencing date, and for the Probation Service to assess him for the rehabilitation programme.
