A Burnside man faced 14 new charges of setting fire to wheelie bins, in the Christchurch District Court today.
Michael Edward Brittenden, a 39-year-old sales assistant, was already appearing on charges of setting six bins alight between July 1 and July 8, with reckless disregard for the safety of property belonging to householders, one charge of possession of firearm rounds, and possession of cannabis.
Today there were nine charges of damaging by fire a wheelie bin and surrounding property, four of arson of wheelie bins, and one of setting fire to a wheelie bin belonging to the police.
The charges are all dated between February 12 and July 15.
Judge John Macdonald remanded Brittenden on bail to appear in court again on September 7.
Brittenden has a bail condition that he not consume or possess alcohol, and Judge Macdonald has changed his curfew time to later in the evening so Brittenden can attend AA meetings.
