Custody remand on pitchfork assault charge

A Burnham man has been charged with assaulting a woman by using a pitchfork as a weapon.

Trevor Bradley Mackie, a 21-year-old joiner, was remanded in custody after a bail hearing before Judge Stephen O’Driscoll in the Christchurch District Court today.

He entered no pleas to two charges of assault, two of assault with intent to injure, assault using the pitchfork, threatening to kill the woman, indecent assault, and possession of cannabis.

Police allege all the offences occurred at Burnham on Saturday.

After the bail application by defence counsel Clayton Williams, Judge O’Driscoll declined bail and remanded Mackie in custody to January 16.
