A woman charged with attempted murder after the alleged stabbing of a man at a house in Riccarton on Monday has been remanded in custody at the Christchurch District Court.
The 58-year-old Avonhead woman, Virginia Maria Beerens, entered no plea at an appearance before Judge Alistair Garland.
No bail application was made, but duty lawyer David Bunce indicated that one may be made at her next appearance, which will be in the High Court on February 9.
The woman, a dental assistant, also faces a charge of intentionally damaging by fire, a bed and personal items belonging to the man who was allegedly stabbed. He was in critical condition in hospital on Monday.
Firefighters were called to the Picton Avenue property in Riccarton about 1pm on Monday, and emergency services returned to the house later in the day to attend the injured man.
