A 21-year-old man has been remanded in custody on a charge of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm in a stabbing incident in Malvern Street at the weekend.
The man was granted interim name suppression at an appearance before Judge Jane Farish in the Christchurch District Court. He entered no plea.
The forensic psychiatric nurse at court asked for a remand in custody so the Forensic Team could carry out a psychiatric screening test ahead of the next appearance which is scheduled for February 5.
In the meantime, a lawyer will be assigned and the police will make an address check ahead of a possible bail application hearing.
Police said a man was admitted to hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed multiple times in the neck, back, and chest by an associate wielding two knives on Saturday night. They said on Sunday that the man was expected to make a full recovery.
