DESCRIPTION:10am sentencing in the High Court for Shayal Upashna Sami\, 21\, who was convicted on November 13\, 2017\, at the end of an 11 day trial before Justice Rachel Dunningham and a jury\, of the manslaughter of Aaliyah Ashlyn Chand\, a 1-year-old she was babysitting. The child died of a head injury in January 2015\, while in Sami’s care. The Crown had charged Sami with murder\, alleging it was a reckless killing in a moment of anger or frustration\, while defence counsel Jonathan Eaton QC said the injuries had been received in an unwitnessed fall from furniture. \n  \n  \n
