Sentencing for doctor on indecency charges

Christchurch GP Rakesh Kumar Chawdhry, 62, due for sentence at 2.15pm on 11 charges of indecently assaulting male patients by fondling them during examinations, and one charge of unlawful sexual connection. He was found guilty by Judge Jane Farish after a Christchurch District Court trial that began in November 2017, and involved 14 complainants. She found him not guilty on four indecent assault charges. Defence counsel are Paul Wicks QC and Kerry Cook. Pip Norman and Chris Lange appeared for the Crown. Some suppression orders remain. Chawdhry was remanded in custody for sentencing.
