Indecency on boy admitted

A seven-year-old boy playing in the street was invited home and indecently assaulted by a 60-year-old man he met.

The boy told an interviewer of lying face down and having his bottom rubbed by 60-year-old Allen John Ellis, who was crouching behind him.

The same happened on another occasion when Ellis was standing beside him.

The boy eventually told his mother that Ellis had spoken to him while he was playing in the street and had touched him inappropriately.

Ellis, a sales assistant, today admitted two charges of indecently assaulting the boy.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Mark Berryman said Ellis denied the offending when police interviewed him but he pleaded guilty at his appearance in the Christchurch District Court before Judge Stephen Erber.

The judge remanded him on bail for a probation report and sentencing on June 26.

Ellis will live at an address in Redwood during the remand.
