Greymouth man admits child sex crimes

Greymouth man Brent Milton Kamaru is in custody awaiting sentence for sex offending against two girls aged eight and ten years.

Interim name suppression was lifted when he pleaded guilty to the four charges before Christchurch District Court Judge John Bisphan.

Kamaru, who is also known as Brent Milton Lawn, aged 42, admitted charges of sexual conduct with each child, and two charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.

All are ?representative? charges, meaning the offending occurred more than once.

He will be dealt with at a crown sentencing session in Christchurch on October 2.

Although Judge Bisphan refused further name suppression he did suppress part of the summary of facts which defence counsel Paul Johnson said was still in dispute.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Brocas told the court that ?other acts of indecencies were commonplace around the house? where Kamaru offended with the girls.

He told of indecencies taking place on one girl, aged seven, as she sat with Kamaru watching television.

He would put his hand down her back, inside her underwear and touch her bottom.

On other occasions, he would touch the inside of her upper thigh, outside her clothing, while they watched television.

When she was interviewed, the girl said this had happened every second or third day.

The other girl, aged nine, told the interviewers that Kamaru got her to sit next to him as they watched television.

She was wearing her nightie but no underwear.

He began to lick her vagina but stopped when she said she wanted to go.

On another occasion he pulled the girl behind the stairs, pulled down her pants and licked her vagina while she was standing.

He stopped when she said she did not want to do it anymore.

The sex acts became commonplace, said Sergeant Brocas.

These included Kamaru licking and sucking the complainant?s nipples and kissing her neck.

While she was in the kitchen making breakfast, he would come up behind her and rub his body against hers.

Sometimes he would take her into his bedroom and show her images on his computer.

The girl said the images were of people having sex, and included adults, teenagers, and children.

She also said she would close her eyes and Kamaru would hold her from behind and rub his exposed penis against the skin of her lower back.

The court documents list Kamaru?s address as Greymouth and his occupation as plasterer.
