Three young men who worked together to intimidate, bully, and rob a man after making him get off a?bus were sentenced in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.
James Taylor Thompson, 23 , Mikara Douglas Junior Morgan, 21,?and Kama Cedric Morgan, 25, were found guilty by a trial jury of aggravated robbery.
Judge Gary MacAskill said the man was on a suburban bus where he was threatened with violence and punched. The men demanded he get off the bus. When he got off, one ran off with his bag, and another punched him again.
He said that because the three of them worked together it was aggravated robbery. It was not planned in advance, and the robbery emerged as the events unfolded.
The victim was not psychologically affected, and had been paid reparation by the men.
He sentenced Mikara Morgan to 11 months? home detention with an assessment for rehabilitation programmes.
Kama Morgan was sentenced to nine months? home detention, also with an assessment for a rehabilitation programme.
Thompson had offended while on bail and had burglary, breach of community work, and perverting the course of justice charges as well. He received a three year one month prison term.
Judge MacAskill said all three were good family men, with families of their own to care for. On one hand they were decent people in the community but on other hand they did offending such as this.
