Electronically monitored bail has been granted to a man charged with the armed robbery and kidnapping of two women the police allege were lured to a Christchurch motel room.
Samuel Anthony Lowsley, 25, will be released from Christchurch Men?s Prison where he has been held since his arrest in late July.
He was remanded on bail to appear at a post-committal conference at the Maori Land Court in Peterborough Street on November 10.
He appeared at a Christchurch District Court session inside the prison today where Judge Gary MacAskill considered the application put forward by defence counsel Elizabeth Bulger.
The police are alleging Lowsley was one of two men who enticed the women to a Worcester Street motel room about 8am on July 28 where the women were bound and robbed at gunpoint.
The robbery involved a long-barrelled shotgun, and $430 and some other property was taken.
Police say the other man allegedly involved has not yet been identified.
They continued to oppose Lowsley?s release on bail.
Lowsley will have to wear an electronic anklet and remain at a specified address under a 24-hour curfew which will be varied when he takes up work or has to attend appointments related to the case.
