Forty-six-year-old Wayne Alexander Neil is in custody awaiting sentence after admitting raping a young woman.
He was given a first strike warning under the Government?s three-strike rule that imposes heavier penalties on violent offenders, after his guilty plea at a Christchurch District Court session inside the men?s prison today.
Judge Alistair Garland remanded Neil for a probation officer?s report and sentence at Rangiora on March 2.
Neil woke the woman while she was asleep at her home on the afternoon of August 4 because he wanted to have sex with her. ?She told him several times that she did not want to, and he replied that he would make her,? said police prosecutor Ruth Thomas.
He then removed some of her clothing and held her down by the shoulders while he had sex with her, without her consent, while she continued to say, ?No?.
Neil initially told police that he had tried to persuade the woman to have sex with him and an argument had followed, but no intercourse had taken place.
