A 30-year-old man is in custody and facing a lengthy jail term at his sentencing next year after admitting 12 Christchurch burglaries.
Zane Frank Sutton admitted the offences at a Christchurch District Court sitting inside the men?s prison yesterday.
Many of the charges involve house burglaries in Bryndwr, Papanui, St Albans, and Fendalton.
Judge David Saunders set sentencing for March 2, at Rangiora, with Sutton in custody in the meantime.
He said he was concerned that sentencings were being set so far ahead, but Sutton was facing a lengthy jail term anyway because of the seriousness of the burglaries and his history of offending.
He asked the police to prepare a schedule of losses from each of the burglaries for the sentencing judge, to give an idea of the scale of the offending.
But he also said he believed there was no prospect of Sutton paying for the losses.
Sutton had earlier pleaded guilty to less serious charges of shoplifting and driving while disqualified.
The police withdrew a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
