An application has been abandoned for a 29-year-old man charged with murder to be released on bail.
The Kaiapoi farmhand, who has suppression of name and details of the case, is charged with the murder of a woman in Burwood on July 11. Her name is also suppressed.
The man has been in custody since his arrest, and while a psychiatric report was prepared.
The man was scheduled to make an application for release on electronically monitored bail before Judge Oke Blaikie in Christchurch District Court today, but defence counsel Tony Greig said it was not possible to go ahead with the application.
?No further application for bail is likely to be advanced,? he said.
Judge Blaikie withdrew the application and remanded the man in custody to October 10.
Several police who had worked on the case were in court to watch what happened with the bid for bail.
